Crochet Fish Pattern 1

Crochet Fish Pattern

Pattern makes a 4.5 inch Fish

  • Worsted weight yarn - any color
  • Crochet Hook Size I/5.50mm
  • Yarn Needle

Stitch Abbreviations
ch: chain
dc: double crochet
hdc: half - double crochet
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
sp (s): space (es)
stitch (s): stitch (es)
tr: treble crochet

The Body
Ch 10;

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Hdc in next ch, dc in the next, tr in next 3 chs. Dc in the next ch, hdc in the next ch, 3 sc in the last ch.

You should have this so far.

Row 2: Working on the opposite side of the first row, hdc in next ch, dc, one tr in the next 3 sts, dc, hdc, then 2 sc in the last st, sl st to the first sc and fasten off. Weave in ends.

The fish will start to bow and puff out a bit and that's how it's supposed to be. So don't worry, you did everything right.

Now let’s make the tail.

The Tail
Attach yarn in the middle sc of any 3 sc sp you did. I prefer the end that doesn't have the sl st.

Edit: After you attach the yarn  Ch 2, 4 dc in same space, ch 2 and sl st in same st.

Ch 1, *sc in the next 4 sts, 2 sc in the next st, sc in the next 4 sts*, 3 sc in the next st, Repeat from * to *.

Sl st in the tail sp, Ch 2. Sc 3 times in the first dc, sc in next two sts. 3 sc in the next dc. Ch 2. Sl st in the same tail sp. ch 1. Sl st to the first sc.

Fasten Off. Weave in ends.

  1. Oh! Do I ever like your blog, Monet. It is so well set up, so well organized. It also shows a great deal of creativity. Congratulations!

Thanks for your Crochet Fish Pattern 1. I will use it on the newborn hospital hats I am knitted. The «Fish» will be for baby boys caps. Would you have any flower pattern I could use for baby girl?

Once again, bravo and a thousand thanks!

    1. Thank you so much Claire!! That's so great that you're going to use my fish pattern to but on hats for newborns! I would love to see how those turn out!

Unfortunately I do not currently have a pattern for a flower. :( I just might have to make one now!

Thanks again for the great compliments.

  2. Is there a step missing when you attatch yarn? Is there supposed to be some dc's then the sc around the body? Because the last step mentions to sc around the dc. There isn't any. Thank you!

    1. Hi Jenn44 You are absolutely correct, I just added the edit for that. After going through my patterns on paper, I see I forgot that part of the pattern when I typed it out from my hand written pattern. THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing that out!!

      Hope it helps now!

  3. I did 4 dc'sand ch 2 sl st in tail, then sc around like you said. Then did the end directions as is. Thanks. Not sure if that is how you did it, but mine turned out cute.

    1. Just saw this comment in my inbox but you were correct I'm so sorry for the inconvenience Jenn!
